Well, it’s time for another Terrain Race! It’s in 2 weeks, and I started trying to run again last week. I am using C25K, Couch to 5K. It is an app for the phone that has a system designed to get you off the couch and able to run a 5K in 8 weeks. You walk/run for a certain amount of time 3 days a week, with every week getting progressively longer run times. The app gives you the cues to start and stop running for the day’s workout, and you can play music in the background. The first week is 8 intervals on 1-minute runs and 90-second walks, with 5-minute warm-ups before and after. Usually when I start this, I have a lot of trouble even doing 1-minute runs. This time was different, I could actually do the runs without asking myself how much longer until this damn minute is over!! I picked out the flattest area around and was able to do it. I had forgotten my headphones, so I didn’t get to listen to music, but I turned up the volume on the phone so I would hear the cues. During the last minute, I headed towards home, and had traffic noises around. I did start having trouble breathing, and began wondering how long a minute was, and checked the timer on the app, and it said I had only been doing this round for 30 seconds! I started to put my phone away, stopped and looked again. I was 30 seconds past my run time! I didn’t hear the cue to start walking because of the traffic. This means I did a whole lot better than I expected on my first run! Yay, me! I was able to complete the first week without as much trouble as usual, I am very proud of myself. I started the second week yesterday. It is 6 intervals of 90-seconds of running with 1-minute walking. I did start having trouble at the end of my 5th interval, but I was able to do it all 🙂
Now I just have to figure out headphones. I have trouble with them falling out, but I don’t know if it is because they are too big, or too small. I don’t usually like the type that wraps around my ears, because I wear glasses. The arms of the glasses, and the headphones rub against each other, and it is very uncomfortable. But I finally realized that since my glasses usually try to fall off while I run, I shouldn’t wear them. That means there won’t be a conflict 🙂 It will be harder to check my phone for the interval times, but in the long run, it should be fine.
