It isn’t a new craft, it is just going to the next level.
Cross-Stitch…I love it, I would love to sell the things I make on Etsy. Unfortunately, everything I make is from someone else’s pattern. Etsy has been putting its foot down about selling trademarked and copyrighted items. Many sellers have been selling patterns they have copied from books as downloadable patterns. This means they can sell each pattern over and over. Not kosher, people. You bought the book, that doesn’t mean you can sell each pattern over and over again. Some of the sellers have made more than the book cost in the first place by selling the 20 or more patterns from the book. I recognized some of the patterns from my books, and I feel bad for the original designer.
All that said, I am learning to make my own patterns, and will try to sell them as a download for maybe $1 each. I still get some extra incoming and not doing anything I feel is unethical. I have made a pattern for a yellow rose. Right now, I am stitching it to see if it looks like I intend it to look. I am falling down on the stitching part. I created the pattern in July and am still stitching it. It isn’t even very big. I just have lost motivation for a lot of things. I started bringing my computer to work so I can watch movies or TV shows while I’m here. I can usually get a lot of crafting done while I watch, but I’ve just been playing games on my phone while I watch. At least I have started adding to my journeys. When I figure out how to resize my pictures again (I’ve forgotten) I will post the flower, grid, and progress.
This is the original picture.
Then I made it into a 40×40 stitch pattern with just 8 colors. That is how most of my ornaments are designed.
It didn’t look quite right. Since I am learning, I decided to try it a bit bigger and add more colors. This is 80×80 with 25 colors.
This looks a bit better. I have tweaked some of the colors and stitches, but overall, it’s ok. I have started stitching it, but I’m not feeling it 🙁
