I read a lot, I like to read. I mean I REALLY like to read. I get asked “how many books do you read a year?” That isn’t really a question I can answer. It is more a case of how many books do I read a week? Or even how many per day? For instance, I finished 2 books this morning. Now, I didn’t read the whole books this morning, I started one of them yesterday, and the other the day before. It just so happened that this morning I only had a few chapters of each left, so I finished them up. I also started a new book, I have read 27%, 12 chapters, so far today. I tend to read one on Kindle, and the other in real life. This can get complicated, I have tapped the real book a few times not remembering that I have to turn pages!!
This makes remembering what I have read a bit difficult. I have gone to the library or book store and found a few books that look interesting, brought them home, got started and realized I’ve already read it. Started the next, same thing. Sometimes I end up with all the books being ones I have already read. Now I have nothing to read 🙁
I have been trying to find a way to keep track of what I have read and what I want to read. I also want to track how far I have gotten in a series so that I don’t have to re-read all of them to find my spot. Not that I really mind that much 🙂
I was talking to hubby about it, and he designed me a database!!!! Wonderful hubby!!! I have to input all of the information, but I am good at that, data entry was one of my jobs growing up. He designed it so that I can search on author, title, series name or genre. I also have information on which number it is in the series, whether I have read it or not, whether I want to own it, already own it, or just want to read it. I can also put notes about the book, sometimes I don’t like the author, or series, and I can put a note saying “too dark” “preachy” “sickeningly sweet” – all of which I have noted 🙂 I also get to make up my own genres. The basic genres don’t really work anymore. Mystery for instance has multiple sub-genres – cozy, noir, hardcore, crime, etc. I make my own labels, which I have to write down so I can remember later 🙂 Cozy Hobby Mystery – Cozy Paranormal Mystery – Cozy Mystery. I will find more later I am sure. BTW, cozy hobby mysteries are fun because they actually give you information on a craft, sometimes even a pattern. I found XS, knitting, making snowglobes, candlemaking, and more. Love it!!
Putting in all the authors I like (and don’t like) is very time consuming, but it is going to be fantastic later!!
