Hubby got me a sanding tool to use for smoothing the foam seams. I’m excited to play with it tomorrow! I got the sander, but it rained all day, so I didn’t get to work on it.
My first project is a basic mask/muzzle. I only had foam, contact cement, sand paper and an exacto knife kit
I ordered a couple more PDF books from Kamuicosplay.com. She is very inspiring and her books have been helpful. I ordered a pattern set of armor, all the patterns are made for her, so I am going to have to cut out the paper patterns, tape them together, try them on, expand them to fit me, then make the armor.
Hubby ordered a heat gun for me. I can use it to seal and shape the foam. Pretty cool, huh?
I am starting with the helmet, that should be easy, right? I printed out the pieces for the helmet, decided to use parchment paper to trace the patterns, then found out that tape will not stick to parchment paper. Hmmm, I guess that explains why I line my cookie sheets with it so my cookies don’t stick.
Next I cut out the pieces from paper, then taped them together. Much better, but what a pain! Taping paper together with it needing to curve is a pain! But I did it
Hubby had to crop and size it for me, and he also decided to change the tone, contrast and white balance. Guess I am going to have to put photography on my list
It’s a little small, and I might be wearing a wig under it depending on the character. It also seemed a little short in the back. I printed out my pieces again, extended the back and side pieces, and widened the back pieces. Cut out all the pieces again, taped them together and tried it on again. Hubby thinks it’s still too small, but I am going to give it a try. It’s all just practice. My goal is to have a set of armor to wear for Halloween.
Hubby just ordered a wood burning tool so I can put designs in and make smoother edges and angles. He must love me, this is 3 tools in just 2 months. Still need a sewing machine though 😀
Keep going and posting. So proud of your progress and all the challenges that you tackle.
Thank you! You are a fabulous cheerleader!!
