I’m sorry I haven’t posted for a while. OK, a few months. I was affected by the Covid Blues. But now I’m better and back to doing cool things.
As I mentioned in the last post, I was very disappointed in my Halloween costume. I felt that I was incapable of making anything Cosplay related. I am getting better and feeling up to trying again.
I realized that I did make a suit of armor with a texture that looked like a blacksmith had made it. I need to feel proud of that! I did a great job with the cloak and it’s chain closure. The shaping of the armor and the way to hold it on were the only problems. So I am going back to basics.
I am proud of the fact that I did this! No need to feel disappointed or depressed.
Kamuicosplay has some basic shapes available and I have started with a triangle. Sounds silly, doesn’t it? Well, this is a 3-D triangle, a low prism. I used a much thinner foam than I did for the armor. I hand sanded the edges and glued them together. Didn’t quite sand the edges well enough. I think the next one will be with a slightly thicker foam, or I might get out the dremel. I didn’t use the dremel because of the extreme flexibility of the thinner foam, but I will try it. I will also do the same one with a thicker foam.
Starting with the basics is always a good idea, but I think BIG. After making the armor and realizing I need to learn the basics, then making a basic shape, I found that if I had started with the basics I probably would have quit trying to Cosplay fairly quickly. It is tedious, and not as interesting as a full suit of armor, but I DID make a suit of armor! I also did a fairly decent job of it. I realize that doing the basics and starting with small shapes will make my next big project much better.
